The Crisp and Dooly County Health Department and the West Central Health District are monitoring a recent increase in influenza related illnesses in Crisp and Dooly Counties.

 The Columbus Department of Public Health and the West Central Health District have received shipments of seasonal influenza vaccine for the sixteen counties they serve.  “The Center for Disease Control recommends individuals get their flu vaccination as soon as it becomes available.  Our vaccine supply has now arrived in all of our county health departments, therefore, we encourage you to see our nurses and get vaccinated.” says Dr. Beverley Townsend, District Health Director.  

The West Central Health District as part of the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is calling on area residents to guard against exposure to mosquitoes. At this time, DPH has identified one confirmed and three probable West Nile Virus (WNV) cases in the West Central Health District.

The Women Infants and Children (WIC) Program at the Columbus Health Department will kick off its annual Farmers Market Nutrition Campaign for WIC Participants only on Friday, July 20th. The event will kick off at 8:00 am and will be on a first come, first serve basis.

 Attorney Gary Bruce joins Safe Kids Columbus in the fight against childhood accidental injury and death in children 14 years and younger. 

 Safe Kids Columbus will host the area’s second annual Baby Expo on Saturday, April 21 at the Columbus Civic Center. The Expo will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.; it includes seminars, baby contests, more than 50 local exhibitors, a new “Baby Market Place” and lots of giveaways.  Admission is $5, and children 6 or younger get in free. The first 200 paid admissions get a baby bonus bag, complete with valuable coupons and free product samples.

 To celebrate National Infant Immunization Week, the Columbus Department of Public Health will be offering immunizations starting on Tuesday, April 24^th - Friday, April 27^th  and Monday, April 30th weekdays, from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. to children ages 19 years and younger.    There will be FREEHearing, Vision and Dental screenings for ages 4 years- 6 years of age during these days.
