December 9, 2010

On Wednesday, December 22, 2010, the Columbus (Muscogee), Crisp, Macon, Marion, Quitman, and Schley County Health Departments in the West Central Health District will be closed and the employees furloughed therefore issued a day off without pay due to budget cuts. "Unfortunately, we are now up to 6 of the 16 counties in the West Central Health District facing furlough's due to budget cuts. We regret any difficulty this one day a month closure may cause to the community. Public Health continues to strive to meet the needs of the public during challenging financial times," states Ed Saidla, District Program Manager. Please note: the counties listed above which will closed Wednesday, December 22nd due to budget cuts will also be closed on Thursday, December 23 and Friday December 24, 2010 in observance of the state holidays for Christmas.

The Columbus Department of Public Health resides in the Health and Human Services Building located at 2100 Comer Avenue. Please note this facility houses multiple agencies. This notice of agency closure for the Health & Human Service Building pertains specifically to the Columbus Department of Public Health located on the 2nd floor.

This action is not something any of our Boards of Health take lightly and they understand that it affects our employees and the communities we serve. The agency closure schedule for the West Central Health District counties affected by budget cuts for remainder of 2010 and into 2011 is as follows:
