Department of Public Health
The Crisp County Public Health Department offers the following programs and services.
Adult Health
Immunizations – provides certain immunizations for adults including diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, influenza, pneumonia, measles, mumps, rubella, and hepatitis B.
STD Screening and Treatment – offers confidential screening and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, HIV counseling, testing, and confidential partner notification. Provides risk reduction counseling also.
The Stroke and Heart Attack Prevention Program – offers enrollment in a hypertensive management service and provides limited antihypertensive medications prescribed by client’s physician. Services are provided for low-income clients for a minimal fee. Risk reduction and healthy lifestyle choices are encouraged.
Tuberculosis – offers screening for disease, follow-up of positive tuberculin skin tests and follow-up of disease – DOT is standard of care for cases and prophylaxis therapy of children less than 15 years of age.
General Clinic – offers walk in services for pregnancy testing, TST testing, disability screening services, and laboratory services.
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren – self-referral form available for grandparents raising their grandchildren. Eligibility for services including child support, legal services, childcare, food stamps, Medicaid, senior wellness programs assessed and appropriate referrals made.
District Clinical Services ¬– provides HIV/AIDS and other communicable disease education, counseling, testing, confidential partner notification, surveillance, case management and clinical services.
Women’s Health
Women’s health – provides women with a complete physical exam including cancer screening (Pap smears, breast and colorectal exams). Services include screening for communicable and sexually transmitted diseases, education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices and birth control options.
BreasTest and More – screens for breast and cervical cancer by providing breast exams and Pap smears, and screening mammograms for women 50 to 64 years of age that are low-income and have no insurance. State BreasTest program provides the same services for women 40 to 50 years of age.
Hormone Replacement Therapy – provides hormones for uninsured, low-income women that meet medical criteria outlined in state protocol.
Child and Adolescent Health
Immunizations – provided for children/adolescents 0-18 years old. Immunizations include diphtheria, tetanus, influenza, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox), Haemophilus influenzae Type b (Hib), hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumococcal conjugate (PCV), rotavirus, polio, and meningitis vaccine.
School Health Services – provides scoliosis screening for middle school classes, immunization audits of headstart, pre-K, kindergarten and 6th grade students, and daycare certificates.
WIC– provides comprehensive health and nutrition services that encourage wellness, healthy lifestyles and preventive health care. Nutrition education services and nutritious supplemental food vouchers are available to eligible Women, infants and Children up to five years of age. Georgia Farmer's Market Nutrition Program coupons are available yearly in June.
Babies Can’t Wait – provides health education and social services for families of who may be developmentally delayed. Children from birth to 3 years of age who are developmentally delayed are eligible for services provide by the early intervention referral.
Children 1st – provides a system of identification, linking, monitoring, access to patient health care and service coordination for children 0-4 years of age who are at risk for health and/or development by appointment only.
Car Seat Safety Class – provides free car seats for low-income residents of Crisp County whose parents or legal guardian participates in a class and then correctly places the car seat in the vehicle. This is done in collaboration with the Gateway Center.
Environmental Health
Inspections – motels, restaurants, schools, tattoo studios, swimming pools, and other sites to promote a healthy environment for all. Provides regulation, permitting, and where required enforcement.
Disease Control – provides programs for insect, rodent, and rabies as well as for water borne illnesses.
Pollution Control – services include investigations of conditions related to environmental health, water testing, septic tanks, lead poisoning, and air quality.
Education – provides programs to schools, communities, businesses, civic groups, and individuals.
Emergency Preparedness
Continuous planning for response to diseases and natural disasters. Quarterly CHEART meetings held including community partners in response activities.
Vital Records
Birth Certificates – Access to Crisp County birth records from 1919 to current date.
Death Certificates – Access to Crisp County death records from 1919 to current date.
Vital Records – Files paternity acknowledgments, legitimations,
fetal deaths, amendments and applications for delayed birth records with
state office of vital records.
