Department of Public Health

Webster County Public Health Department offers the following programs and services Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 4:30 by appointment.

Adult Health

District Clinical Services – provides HIV/AIDS/TB and other communicable disease education, counseling, testing, confidential partner notification, surveillance, case management and clinical services.

STD Screening and Treatment – offers confidential screening and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, HIV counseling, testing, and confidential partner notification for Webster County residents.

Health Education – provided to interested persons, organizations and agencies. Focus is on prevention and education addressing various health topics. Educational pamphlets, resource speaker(s), assistance with program planning, and information and referral sources are available.

Immunizations – provided for all ages. Immunizations include diphtheria, tetanus, influenza, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), HIB, polio, and HEB.

Hypertension/Diabetes Services – offer detection, treatment, monitoring, referral, follow-up and patient education for some of the chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, colon, rectal, cervical, pelvic and breast cancers. Services are provided to Georgia residents 18 years and older.

TB – offers detection, treatment, education and follow-up on the Tuberculosis (TB) germ

General Clinic – offers walk in services for rabies contact/follow-up, head lice checks, lead screenings, pregnancy testing, newborn screening and PPD testing.

Women’s Health

Women’s Health – provides women with a complete physical exam including cancer screening (Pap smears, breast and colorectal exams) and diabetes screening. Services include screenings for communicable and sexually transmitted diseases, education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices and birth control options.

Genetics – provides screening for early detection of birth defects. The Newborn Screening Program tests for diseases that may cause early infant death or mental retardation. Screening for selected blood disorders such as Sickle Cell, anemia, and Thalassemia are offered as well. Patients are seen by referral from physicians and other health care providers.

BreasTest and More – screens for breast and cervical cancer, breast exam, Pap smear, screening mammogram for women 50 to 64 years of age, low-income, no insurance or underinsured.

WIC – provides comprehensive health and nutrition services that encourage wellness, healthy lifestyles and preventive health care. Nutrition education services and nutritious supplemental food vouchers are available to eligible Women, Infants and Children up to five years of age.

Perinatal Case Management – assists pregnant Medicaid eligible women to gain access to comprehensive medical, nutritional, social and educational services throughout their pregnancy. Close follow-up on a monthly basis is maintained to provide support as needed.

Child and Adolescent Health

Immunizations – provided for all ages. Immunizations include diphtheria, tetanus, influenza, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), HIB, polio, and HEB.

School Health Services – provides scoliosis screening for all junior high students, immunization audits of kindergarten and first grade students, and daycare/school certificates.

WIC – provides comprehensive health and nutrition services that encourage wellness, healthy lifestyles and preventive health care. Nutrition education services and nutritious supplemental food vouchers are available to eligible Women, Infants and Children up to five years of age.

Health Check – is a comprehensive physical exam for children, which includes developmental and nutritional assessments. Screenings for vision, hearing, dental, and lead are a vital part of this clinic. Services are provided for children from birth to 21 years of age.

Babies Can’t Wait – provides health education and social services for families of children who may be developmentally delayed. Children from birth to 3 years of age who may be developmentally delayed are eligible for services.

Children 1st – provides a system of identification, linking, monitoring, access to primary health care and service coordination for children 0-5 years of age who are at risk for poor health and/or development.

Children’s Medical Services – provides treatment and services to children with special health care needs. In addition, it helps children from birth to 21 years of age to attain/maintain their optimum level of health and functioning.

Teen Health Services – promotes optimal health in all teens, males and females, up to the age of 19. Counseling is provided on abstinence, birth control methods to prevent or delay teen pregnancy, STD’s, nutrition, and referrals are made as needed. All visits are CONFIDENTIAL.

Environmental Health

Inspections – motels, restaurants, assisted living agencies, foster homes, schools, public swimming pools, and other sites to promote a healthy environment for all. Provides regulation, permitting, and where required enforcement.

Disease Control – provides programs for insect, rodent, and rabies as well as food and water borne illnesses.

Pollution Control – services include investigations of conditions related to environmental health, water testing, septic tanks, lead poisoning, air quality, asbestos, radon, and others.

Education – provides programs to schools, communities, businesses, civic groups, and individuals.

Laboratory Services

Laboratory Services provides low-cost laboratory services. Call for details and appointment.
